Time Management Strategies for Baking Business

Running a successful baking business doesn’t mean you have to be busy 24/7.

Yes, you do have things to do, but can you do them more efficiently or smarter?

I think so!

Let’s go over some of the most important efficiency boosting strategies you can use in any baking business set up.

You can begin to reclaim your time, when you pinpoint areas to improve and apply these new strategies.

Strap in, this is a full, juicy training pulled straight from our live mentorship sessions in our Bakery Business School Facebook Group.

What bakers normally waste their precious time on:

  1. Shopping - efficiency and planning is key

  2. Cleaning - starts with organization then moves into cleaning process

  3. Ineffective time online - inefficient posting and interaction

  4. Creation process - weekly routine where you group together like tasks - order deadlines are big here

  5. Pricing calculations and quoting - do the math ahead of time and have your intro questions figured out

Time Management Tips

(explained further in the video above)

Shopping

  1. Group shopping trips, look at stores that have it all or additional online ordering, (y’all need Amazon Prime - get a free 30 day trial here)

  2. Customer order prepayment is KEY

  3. Separate banks accounts for ease

  4. Make a list, don’t wing it

  5. Buy about twice as much as you'll need (if you can use it later)

  6. Create recipes that are related

Cleaning

  1. Delegate or hire out - paid contractors may be a tax right off

  2. Deep clean routine

  3. Dishes and clean work surface are top priority for next day success

  4. “go away” box

  5. Clear bins, racks, vertical height storage

  6. Clean while you bake

  7. Keep a routine and laminated daily cleaning list

  8. Dirty dish bin

Ineffective Time Online

  1. Switch mentality to mostly business online, little to no scrolling

  2. Posts/interaction every 90 minutes or more

  3. Always use a visual

  4. Be open to interaction and conversations

  5. Be intentional

  6. Set up automatic messaging on your business page with first set of questions about placing an order

  7. Set time aside to be on social, not all day long

Creation Process

  1. Early ordering is CRUCIAL to make this work well for a custom order bake shop.

  2. Having 1-2 weeks to purchase materials and pre-make parts of the order will create a better workflow.

  3. Create a weekly routine and stick to it

  4. Group like events to save on set up/clean up time

  5. Purge, organize and put tools back where they belongs. Don’t waste time looking for things.

Quoting and Pricing

  1. Pricing - use a formula that contains all your data and is a comprehensive calculation - check out our full pricing course

  2. Quoting process - ask most popular questions through auto messenger or email right away. Automate as much as possible.

    Example Questions

  • 2. How many servings are you needing for the event?

  • 3. What type of product are you interested in?

  • 4. Are you interested in pick up or delivery?

  • 5. Minimum order is $100, does this align with your budget?
